BOY CASTLE

Castles and defenses sites

Mont Lozere
Le Boy– MENDE 48000 LANUEJOLS

The Boy Castle must have been built around 1369 on the site of the “Mas del Boy”. More comfortable, it became, from the 16th century, the favorite residence of the lords of Tournel.
It was extensively restored after the Wars of Religion, particularly the interior courtyard.
In 1726, the Molette de Morangiès became owners of Boy. It was a member of this family who created the terrace and the main facade onto which the "large living room" opens, once richly decorated with painted woodwork which is today in the United States.
In 1920 it became the property of Senator L. Bringer who gave the use of it, then full possession in 1943, to the Sisters of Providence. It became a preventorium then a care and rest center.
The castle is usually closed to the public but the Pays d'art et d'histoire Mende et Lot en Gévaudan offers guided tours according to schedule or by reservation.
