REGGORDANE TRAIL

Archaeological sites, ancient and prehistoric

48800 VILLEFORT

The "Chemin de Régordane" crosses the township of Villefort on a North-South axis through La Bastide Puylaurent, Prévencheres, La Garde Guerin, Villefort, St Andre Capceze and Vielvic. It follows a geological fault that forms a natural path particularly visible in Villefort. In the Middle Ages, this path was used for the transport of goods between Le Puy en Velay and Montpellier through Alès and Nîmes, but also for the pilgrims who went to the abbey of Saint Gilles du Gard to Nîmes from Le Puy en Velay . Towards the end of the 14th century, the road was abandoned for more profitable axes of the Rhone valley and gradually darkened into oblivion. Nevertheless we can now walk this way on foot, by car and even by train.
