LE MONT-LOZERE

Massive and mountains

Mont Lozere
LE MONT-LOZERE 48190 MONT LOZÈRE ET GOULET

Mont-Lozère is a particularly rich granite backbone included in the buffer zone of the Cevennes National Park.
It is the largest continuous area of pseudo-alpine lawns in the southern Massif Central. Mont Lozère is recognized for the presence of several species and environments which find there their only locality between the Alps and the Pyrenees. There is a strong contrast between windy lawns and wet and peaty depressions (pond heads, flats),
that the name "dry mountain with a thousand peat bogs" reflects well. In the rocky circles of the circus Gourdouzes a sub-Mediterranean flora and relict plants of glacial origin coexist.
